The residents and staff of Wadena's Fair Oaks Lodge will become part of a new family this week.
Eden Senior Care, an Illinois-based firm that operates skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, is on track to take over the senior living campus Thursday from Health Dimensions. Fair Oaks, which offers 75 beds, is located off Highway 10 on the on the east side of Wadena. It is also accessible from County Road 4.
The two new leaders of the Wadena senior living home will be Regional Director Marlene Smith and Administrator Sam Quam.
According to their website, Eden Senior Care presently manages senior care facilities in St. Cloud, Rochester and Edina as well as in three Wisconsin cities - Oshkosh, Wisconsin Rapids and Rhinelander.
Smith worked in Frazee some years ago and made a lot of friends in the area.
"I'm happy to be involved in this project," Smith said. "I live in Ottertail and I just work in St. Cloud during the week. Now I'll be at Wadena on my way back and forth - I'll be in Wadena a couple of days a week helping Sam."
Quam hails from the New London-Spicer of central Minnesota and comes to Wadena from Ellsworth, a community a stone's throw away from the Minnesota-Iowa border. He is also familiar with north central Minnesota having graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead.
"He has a lot of friends in the lakes area," Smith said. "He was really excited to move closer to family and friends."
Smith and Quam have some very definite goals in mind.
"It's not full but we intend to fill it up," Smith said. "Our company has strong morals and ethics and we strive for the best quality of care possible. I have been with this company for two years and I just adore them, I like what they stand for and I like their principles and I've been doing this long. To find someone I like that much and get along with I think that's great."
Quam is just starting his career with Eden Senior Care.
"My beliefs are pretty much in keeping with Marlene's," Quam said.
Smith said she has been very pleased with what she has seen of the present staff at Fair Oaks Lodge.
"We're absolutely keeping the staff," Smith said. "I think we have some good staff on board there and we like what we have seen so far."
