Lakewood Health System named a healthy workplace

The Minnesota Psychological Association recently presented Lakewood Health System with the Psychologically Healthy Workplace award at the 2010 Spring MPA Annual Meeting and Convention in Plymouth, Minn. The award is designed to recognize five major areas of employee well-being: employee involvement, work-life balance, employee growth and development, health and safety and employee recognition.

The MPA awards committee, consisting of 10 licensed psychologists, first gave the Psychologically Healthy Workplace award in 2001. In the application process, Lakewood Health System employees conducted a confidential survey, participated in phone interviews with MPA committee members and hosted the award committee in a site visit. According to the MPA, "organizations presenting programs, policies and procedures that are above-and-beyond the 'standard fare,'" are highly considered.

"Lakewood Health System was chosen for this award based on meeting several key criteria," said Jack O'Regan, PhD, LP and award committee chair. "I was most impressed with the recognition employees could give each other for doing good work. The implementation and dedicated use of recognition cards by managers and employees truly speaks volumes for the organization as a whole."

In 2009, the award was presented to Gillette Children's Hospital. At Lakewood Health System, initiatives include quarterly employee forums, organizational excellence training sessions, employee feedback surveys, employee health programs, an extensive employee recognition structure and benefit fairs.
